Elliot Steinmetz on Motion Offense {Yeshiva}

This is a re-release of the very first Slappin’ Glass podcast ever recorded with Yeshiva MBB Head Coach, Elliot Steinmetz. The trio dive deep into the details of Yeshiva’s terrific motion offense including the reads, principles, and philosophies behind it. At the time of re-release Coach Steinmetz has Yeshiva ranked #1 in D3 MBB once again. A great listen for insight into the intricacies of Motion Offense.

Inside the Episode

Coach Elliot Steinmetz and the Yeshiva Maccabees have been on quite a run the past couple of years, this week posting their 50th win in a row dating back to 2019. A little over a year ago Coach Steinmetz was gracious enough to give us a chance when he joined us on our first ever recording of the Slappin’ Glass Podcast. This week we re-released this podcast in which we explored all the intricacies of Yeshiva’s high powered Motion Offense. Some highlights include:

  • The Principles of Yeshiva’s Motion Offense: We discuss why Coach Steinmetz prefers “principles” over “rules” in their Motion Offense and why it makes them harder to scout later in the season.
  • Implementing the Motion Offense: We talk about the ways Coach Steinmetz begins teaching the Motion Offense through 3 v 3 and 4 v 4.
  • The Value of a Post Catch: Yeshiva runs much of their Motion through a High or Low Post Catch, and we dive into why this is such a major part of the offense.
