Luca Banchi {Euroleague & Latvia NT}

🏀 Top 3 Takeaways from Luca Banchi on the Slappin’ Glass Podcast

In this week’s episode, Anadolu Efes and Latvia National Team Head Coach, Luca Banchi, shares a masterclass on building offensive flow, empowering decision-makers, and thriving under tight time constraints. From redefining “fundamentals” to crafting spacing rules that survive broken plays, Banchi offers hard-earned wisdom for coaches at every level.

1. “Decision-making is a new fundamental.”
Coach Banchi believes modern players must be empowered to read and react rather than simply execute plays.

“Nobody want to be just a simple executor anymore. They want to feel themselves a part of a process and be a decision maker… you have to give technical but also mental instruments to be decision makers.”

2. Flow and spacing beat rigid sets.
At the highest levels, defenses disrupt actions quickly — so offense must keep flowing.

“Most of the defense tend to break the sets… It’s important not to stop the flow of the offense. What sets the tone are the passes… the screens that generate the flow of a system.”

3. Time is the coach’s biggest enemy.
With national teams and EuroLeague schedules, efficiency in communication and practice is critical.

“Time is your bigger enemy… less is more. The typology of information needs to be very short and very sharp… What I give the players are bullets. You have one bullet and you have to hit the target.”
